Autumn 07

Cave leadership courses

A new addition to our courses programme this winter is BCA Local Cave and Mine Leader Award (LCMLA) Level 1 training courses.  The 2 day courses are designed for cavers who would like to take novice groups into caves and mines.  Given Thornbridge’s  location close to both natural caves and numerous old mine workings we are confident that the courses will be a success.

The course will be held on Sat 23 - Sun 24 Feb 2008.

The courses will be led by Des Marshall, an experienced caver and holder of the Cave Instructor Award (CIC).

For more details please see our courses page.

Computer Suite

We now have a computer suite - thanks to Sheffield's "Playing for Success" team donating 12 computers. They will be networked soon and on broadband in the very near future. This will be a real bonus to schools enabling them to keep "in touch" during their visit. Watch this space for an update!

New Activities at Thornbridge

Bouldering

Thornbridge are pleased to announce the arrival of a ‘boulder’. Made of resin, with bolt-on holds and realistic ‘rock’ features, this is just another activity that our groups can benefit from on-site.

What is bouldering?
Bouldering may be used to develop confidence, co-ordination, movement skills, fitness or simply having fun!

The Thornbridge Boulder

The design and shape of the boulder provides a range of surface of varying levels of difficulty, so that groups of all ages and abilities may take part.

New High Ropes

Visiting groups can also now experience the ‘New High Ropes Course’. This involves climbing to a platform, then tackling the high wire course 10m off the ground!

Please note: To use either the Boulder or New High Ropes, you will require an approved instructor.

Sky Ropes

The ‘New High Ropes’ at Thornbridge has been renamed. Our competition, which started back in November and finished at the end of March, produced 108 entries.

The top five names were:
Mammoth, Sky Walker, Sky Ropes, Sky Track and Tyrranoropes.

Alex from Wharncliffe Side Primary
Adam from Wybourn Community Primary &
Clare one of our freelance instructors,
are all winners with the name

Well Done
