Lowland Leader Award (LLA) Assessment in the Peak District
Become a Qualified Lowland Walking Group Leader
The Lowland Leader Award (LLA), developed by Mountain Training, is designed for individuals who want to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. With most of the UK and Ireland made up of this terrain, the opportunities for lowland walking are vast and rewarding.
Whether you’re guiding along the South West Coast Path, the Great Glen Way, or through local woodlands, this award equips you with the skills to lead confidently and responsibly. With growing interest in initiatives like Britain on Foot and Walking for Health, there’s never been a better time to become a qualified walking leader.
2 Day Assessment
The Lowland Leader assessment is two days long. You will be assessed against the syllabus competencies in the candidate handbook. At the end of the assessment you will receive one of three results:
- Pass
- Defer (requires a partial reassessment)
- Fail (requires a full reassessment)
For full details, visit the Mountain Training website to download the official Lowland Leader Award syllabus.
