Testimonials from the 2024/2025 academic year

Schools

Children absolutely loved the cycling sessions. They loved riding on the Monsal Trail and developing their cycling abilities. Several of the children were unable to ride prior to our visit and left having cycled well on the Monsal Trail. Children really engaged with the Thornbridge challenge and the problem solving activities. Unfortunately, due to the current curriculum, we lack the time to so as much of this in school as we would like!

I just wanted to thank you and your wonderful team for a fabulous couple of days at Thornbridge Outdoors. The children and staff had such a great day – the activities were perfect and the instructors were so welcoming, encouraging, positive and so supportive of everyone – regardless of their needs. It was just wonderful to see the children experiencing such a range of outdoor activities in a beautiful setting and working so well in their teams. We will definitely be back

The rock climbing was a huge success. Of the various participants, one had never climbed before and was especially nervous, and another had only experienced an indoor climbing wall, and found it challenging (in a fairly negative way!). Thanks to the instructors, these two individuals had a wonderful time and really enjoyed climbing, as did everyone else. It was really exciting to see the transformation in perspective, and we appreciate that this was as result of the skill of the instructors.

I just want to say a Big thank you, to you and all the staff at Thornbridge. The learners and staff returned on Friday with tired faces and big smiles. It was obvious they’d had a fantastic time engaging with, and enjoying all the activities. And food! I’m sure you already know how important experiences like these are to young people, especially those with SEND. The opportunity to test their boundaries and skills in this way is priceless, and I just want to say how much we value this opportunity.

Thank you so much – we had a fabulous time and really appreciated being able to use the space to gather. There is no way we could have camped in such numbers at a standard campsite but it was really wonderful and the children had a great time enjoying the freedom to play and explore together! We also really appreciated the use of the BBQ and campfire. We will almost definitely be in touch to see if we can book to come again next year. When I asked the group as we closed our weekend if we should do this again next year, there was a resounding ‘Yes!’.

Had a brilliant weekend once again, thanks you. Achieved our objectives of getting leaders all fired up about leading events this year, thanked them for what they do – it was brill! Lots of good comments about the weekend and asking if we are doing it annually – the answer is probably yes! – and lots of good comments about the venue too, although most had been before.

We had a group of 8 friends stay with two of them being disabled and required the accessibility which was great as they could move around the house freely without and restrictions, the kitchen was well kitted out for cooking and we were surrounded by beautiful scenery all in all a great place to stay.

He made learning really interesting & explained why we treat people as we do using real life experience & really clever & thoughtful method of learning.     positive review  We had a brilliant weekend. Lots of interesting activities to try whether a novice or pro, young or older. Well laid out.Good shower and toilet facilities. Feels safe, children can play freely. Beautiful location by the Monsal trail. A great place for enjoying the outdoor life with friendly like minded people.

    positive review  Oadby Walking group: We had our anniversary get-together (30 members) and stay with a great Monsal trail walk in November 2017. It was a great stay and the accomodation satisfied all our needs. The administrative staff (Helen and Jill) were very helpful and understood our needs. Ian, the walking guide, clearly guided us with our needs for the walking activity. In summary, the staff were very helpful, the accomodation was great and we had one of the happiest times! Thanks.

    positive review  I loved the place. Great location. The accommodation was very clean and big enough for a large group. Wonderful facilities on site and walking grounds. The Thornbridge hall accross the road is beatiful area to walk and explore. The nearby village of Ashford is beautiful for a leisurely walk. Will recommend to friends.

    positive review  Excellent spot for a group of friends to gather. We were a mixed group of family and friends of all ages. Facilities are perfect and location is really good for walking biking climbing and general outdoor messing about. Nice biking areas on site and a little bouldering wall. I left a heart rate monitor behind which they very kindly and promptly posted back to me. Couldn't recommend enough.

    honestly i couldnt believe the fact that the mattress was so hard i woke up on a rock.!??? unfortunately i got chased away from the facility by a grown adult which shattered my heart as i was running as fast as ever. my organs could NOT take tjat and considering i had to go back to the room to a rock. it was horror ??? my mummy said there was evil spirits outside because of the lack of street lamps and i could have fell in a hole.. there was no parking and STOP BRINGING OFF BRAND MILK FROM ALDI ITS NOT GOOD FOR MY TUMMY because of THIS i have crippling depression due to the excessive diarrhoea .. uh oh…i am confused and started seeing two birds outside !???????!;!;!;!;! i was just curious
