Monsal Trail Bike Hire – Mountain Bikes for Adults & Children

On selected dates, we offer mountain bike hire on the Monsal Trail, one of the Peak District’s most popular traffic‑free cycling routes. Our bike hire location sits directly on the trail, allowing you to step straight onto this flat, scenic route – ideal for families, beginners and relaxed riders.
We offer a wide range of adult and children’s bikes, making it easy for everyone to explore the Monsal Trail together at their own pace. With stunning countryside views throughout, cycling the trail is one of the best ways to experience the area. Book your bike hire online, collect your bikes, and start riding within minutes.

Bike Hire Sessions

  • Morning Hire – Collect bikes and helmets from 9:30am, return by 12:30pm
  • Afternoon Hire – Collect bikes and helmets from 1:00pm, return by 4:00pm

Mountain Bike Hire Prices

Adults – £16 per bike

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • Extra Large

Children – £10 per bike

  • Extra Extra small (for inside leg 50-62cm)
  • Extra Small (for inside leg 57-72cm)
  • Small (for inside leg 63-81cm)
  • Medium (for inside leg 72-88cm)

Please note: we offer pedal bikes only – we don’t have any e‑bikes.

Important Information for Bike Hire

  • A deposit such as car keys or a driving licence is required for each booking (which will keep for the duration of the hire).
  • Free parking is included in our guest carpark.
  • Pre‑booked hire only (No walk‑in hire).
  • Minimum age: 5 years.
  • Riders under 18 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is also hiring a bike.
  • Helmets are compulsory and included with your hire and must be worn at all times while riding.
  • Bikes to only be used on the Monsal Trail and nearby public roads where cycling is permitted; not on bridleways, footpaths or our on-site trail.
  • Tips for riding on the Monsal Trail to ensure the trails remain enjoyable for everyone.

Do I need to book Monsal Trail bike hire in advance?
Yes, all bike hire must be pre‑booked online. We do not offer walk‑in hire.

Is the Monsal Trail suitable for children?
Yes. The Monsal Trail is traffic‑free and flat, making it ideal for families and younger riders.

Are helmets included with bike hire?
Yes, helmets are compulsory and included with every bike hire.

Can bikes be used off the Monsal Trail?
Bikes must only be used on the Monsal Trail and nearby public roads where cycling is permitted.

Can I ride on the on-site bike trails and pump track?
No, use of the bike trails and pump track are only permitted for Thornbridge Outdoors instructor led or approved groups.

We are a school coming on a residential, do we need to pre-book bikes?
No, bike hire is included for schools on one of our ‘Bundle’ residential packages.
