These Terms and Conditions apply to all bike hire bookings made with us. By making a booking and/or using our bikes, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Definitions
• “We”, “us”, “our” means the bike hire operator.
• “You”, “your”, “hirer” means the person who makes the booking and any rider using the hired bike.
• “Bikes” means bikes and any supplied equipment, including helmets.
2. Pre Booking Only
2.1 All bike hire is pre booked in advance.
2.2 We do not accept walk in or on the day hire without a confirmed booking.
3. Eligibility and Supervision
3.1 The minimum rider age is 5 years.
3.2 Riders under 18 years of age must be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian who is also hiring a bike.
3.3 The parent or guardian is responsible for the conduct, safety, and compliance with these Terms of any rider under 18.
4. Deposit
4.1 A deposit such as car keys or a driving licence is required for each booking.
4.2 We will retain the deposit for the duration of the hire period and return it once all bikes and equipment are safely returned and checked.
5. Helmets and Safety
5.1 A helmet is included with every bike hire.
5.2 Helmets must be worn at all times while riding, without exception.
5.3 You are responsible for ensuring the helmet fits correctly and is worn properly.
5.4 You must ride with due care and attention, obey the Highway Code, and consider weather, surface, and traffic conditions.
6. Permitted Use and Riding Areas
6.1 Bikes may only be ridden on:
• the Monsal Trail, and
• nearby public roads where cycling is legally permitted.
6.2 Bikes must not be ridden:
• on bridleways,
• on footpaths,
• on our on-site trails, or
• on any land or route where cycling is prohibited.
6.3 You are responsible for knowing and complying with local access rules.
7. Prohibited Use and Misuse
7.1 Bikes must not be misused. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:
• reckless or dangerous riding,
• racing, stunts, jumps, or off road use,
• riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
• carrying passengers unless the bike is specifically designed for that purpose,
• towing or being towed by another vehicle.
7.2 We may terminate the hire immediately if misuse is suspected.
8. Condition of Bikes
8.1 Bikes and equipment are supplied in safe, working condition.
8.2 You must check the bike before use and report any issues immediately.
8.3 You must not attempt repairs or adjustments yourself.
9. Damage, Loss and Theft
9.1 You are responsible for the bike and equipment from the start of hire until they are returned and accepted by us.
9.2 Normal wear and tear is not chargeable.
9.3 You will be liable for:
• damage caused by negligence or misuse, charged at the cost of repair, and
• theft or total loss, charged up to the full replacement value of the bike and equipment.
9.4 Bikes must be locked when unattended and used responsibly to reduce risk of theft.
10. Return of Bikes
10.1 Bikes must be returned on time and to the agreed location.
10.2 Late returns may result in additional charges and may affect your liability.
11. Cancellations, No Shows and Refunds
11.1 All pre bookings are non refundable.
11.2 No refunds will be given for cancellations, late arrival, early return, non attendance, or adverse weather.
12. Liability
12.1 Cycling involves inherent risks, including the risk of injury or accident.
12.2 Every rider hires and rides at their own risk and is responsible for their own safety and the safety of any child they supervise.
12.3 By riding one of our bikes, each rider personally accepts these risks, whether or not they made the booking.
12.4 We are not responsible for loss, damage, or injury caused by:
• your failure to follow these Terms,
• misuse of the bike, or
• events outside our reasonable control.
12.5 Nothing here limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
13. Breach of Terms
13.1 If you breach these Terms, we may:
• end the hire immediately without refund, and/or
• recover costs for damage, loss, or other resulting expenses.
14. Data Protection
14.1 Personal data is handled in accordance with our privacy notice and applicable data protection laws.
14.2 Identification documents are retained only for the hire period and returned promptly.
15. Governing Law
15.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
15.2 Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
16. Acceptance
16.1 By making a booking and using the bikes, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
