Camping Leader Award Assessment in the Peak District

Lead safe and enjoyable camping experiences for youth and outdoor groups

The Camping Leader Award from Mountain Training is designed for qualified Lowland Leader or Hill and Moorland Leader holders who want to extend their skills to include camping as part of a longer journey. This award is ideal for those involved in Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Ten Tors, or similar youth development programmes.

What You’ll Learn

The Camping Leader syllabus includes:

  • Leadership and group management in camping environments
  • Planning and supervision of overnight camps
  • Teaching and learning skills for outdoor settings
  • Camping equipment selection and use
  • Food preparation and cooking outdoors

Online Training Resource

There is no formal face-to-face training for this award. Instead, Mountain Training offers an optional online course via your Mountain Training account.
This self-paced module takes around 4 hours and covers:

  • Syllabus overview
  • Assessment preparation
  • Skill consolidation tips

You can revisit the course as often as needed before your assessment.

Consolidation

After completing the online training course, use the skills checklist from the Mountain Training website to identify syllabus areas you need to practise.

The team have been working hard to upgrade the campfire areas.
We love hearing of the singing, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows from guests the following day. #outdoorlearning #makingmemories
