Revised use of our camping facilities due to COVID-19 :

The safety of our guests, staff and community is obviously very important to us.  In order to comply with the guidance around social distancing, enhanced cleaning and other measures that are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID 19 we have adapted how we offer camping facilities for guests.

We have 3 camping areas to book:

  • Main Camping field – guest’s own tents to be pitched on the field in front of the Base Camp building and they will have use what is usually the Female’s toilet and shower area in the Base Camp building.
  • Coaching Loop field – guest’s own tents to be booked in the field adjacent to our main camping field, with a cycle trail around its perimeter, and they will have use what is usually the Male’s toilet and shower area in the Base Camp building.
  • The Yurt – guests have the option of sleeping in our 9 yard diameter Yurt and/or pitching their tents in the area of (but not closer than 6 metres to) of the Yurt and will have use of a toilet/shower room in the nearby Cheedale building.

Each camping area will have sole use of their toilet and shower facility, rather than all campers sharing our usually separate male and female toilet blocks as is usually the case.  This will mean different genders using the same toilet room, with its separate cubicles, and shower room.  If privacy is required groups may opt to stagger when different parts of their groups use the facilities.

Each camping area is available for stays for up to 12 people from up to 2 households/bubbles. This gives the opportunity for 2 families to book a break together and enjoy the fantastic Peak District National Park.  Social distancing and hygiene between the 2 households/bubbles is the responsibility of those staying and is why we are only renting each area to two households/bubbles who know each other and book together, or to one family to have sole use.

This use of the camping areas is currently on offer until the end of October 2020 both midweek and at weekends, with the exception of the Yurt which is not available midweek during August.

What’s included?

  • Camping in your designated area.
  • Picnic benches.
  • Sole use by your two households/bubbles of a toilet and shower area.
  • Use of a designated dish washing sink, which can be used for your drinking water supply.
  • Parking.
  • Use of the area around where you are camping for relaxing and games.

Shared use of the games field may be possible, but social distancing between groups must be in place.

What’s not included?

  • Use of the Base Camp building.
  • Use of a Thornbridge BBQ (due to cleaning requirements).
  • Use of the wider site.
  • Cleaning of the toilet/shower facilities during your stay.

Our low ropes and climbing boulder aren’t usually available to groups that aren’t being instructed by a Thornbridge Outdoors staff member, and it is especially important in the context of COVID-19 that they are not used by visiting groups.

Considerate camping:

We are keen to ensure that all guests can enjoy their stay at Thornbridge Outdoors and make the most of our quiet rural location.  We therefore ask that noise is kept to a minimum after 10pm and that music is kept personal – i.e. played through headphones rather than out loud.

Arrival and departure times:

To avoid the overlap of groups and allow time for the cleaning of the facilities please:

  • Arrive after 4pm on your arrival day.
  • Depart by 9am on your departure day (unless it’s a Sunday in which case you are welcome to stay until 5pm).

Price and booking:

To book a camping area as outlined above is £70 per night, including VAT.

Changeover days are Monday and Friday.

Minimum booking periods:

  • August – a minimum booking of 3 nights both midweek and at weekends (except Yurt area only which is available Fri and Sat nights, except the bank holiday weekend when it also available Sunday night).
  • September and October – a minimum booking period of 3 nights midweek and 2 nights at weekends.

To check availability and book a camping area please email info@thornbridgeoutdoors.co.uk stating the dates and accommodation that you are interested in and we will reply as soon as possible.

Bookings are confirmed by return of an emailed booking form and online payment via a link that you will be sent.  Please note that emails will be checked each morning Monday-Friday.

Availability:

Please email info@thornbridgeoutdoors.co.uk to check availability.

Activities:

We are not offering instructed activities to residential guests at present, but the centre is superbly located for self-led biking and walking adventures amongst other things.

Bookings beyond October 2020:

The content below is unedited from before the COVID-19 outbreak as we hope to return to being able to allow larger groups to make the most of the camping at the centre.  If you are interested in booking camping in 2021 or beyond then please get in touch to discuss the options.

Campsite

Our campsite is a well sheltered flat camping area that will accommodate up to 40 people (larger groups by arrangement).  It is available for group bookings by schools, families, friends, youth groups, clubs, Scouts, Guides and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award units.

Please note that no dogs are allowed on site (except for assistance dogs).

Our Teepee Village is included in the price; it goes up around Easter and is taken down at approximately October half term.

Base Camp Facilities

An added attraction of camping here on our campsite is the included Base Camp kitchen / dining room which sits right next to the camping field and the teepees.  The building has a fully equipped kitchen with catering size utensils, commercial dishwasher, small microwave, fridge, large catering cooker and grill.  Adjacent to the kitchen is the pantry which contains a chest freezer.

The Base Camp dining room can seat up to 60 comfortably, there is also outdoor seating provided.

Male and female toilets and showers are at one end of the Base Camp building along with the outside sinks.

Wi-Fi access is enabled in the Base Camp kitchen / dining room but does not reach all the teepees.
