Registration Open: Sheffield Schools Bouldering Competition 2027

The Climbing Works are delighted to announce that registration is now open for the 2027 Sheffield and Greater Sheffield Schools Bouldering Competition.

This is a fun and inclusive event, aimed at offering a new experience for participants. The top 5 qualifying schools, along with 5 schools selected at random, will take part in the March 2027 finals for each category (Primary/Secondary).

Each school must have an equal split of male and female competitors, with three male and three female competitors advancing to the finals, should your school qualify.

Criteria

Primary Schools: Engage and widen participation

The Climbing Works aim is to welcome as many new climbers as possible, giving opportunities to pupils who wouldn’t ordinarily have access to the sport. To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience, climbs will be specifically set for novices. Therefore, we kindly ask teachers to choose participants who are new to climbing rather than entering experienced climbers, which would create an unfair advantage. More experienced climbers are encouraged to join youth events hosted later in the year, such as the Summer Youth Cup in June or the Young Climbers Festival in August.

Secondary Schools: Compete

The Climbing Works welcome pupils of all abilities to take part in the competition.

Register your interest

Register your Primary school. Teams must be made up of Year 5 and 6 pupils only.

Register your Secondary school. Teams must be made up of Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils only.

Once registered, The Climbing Works will email you a booking link for the qualification round. Qualification rounds take place between 6 January -10 February and must be booked before 14 December to guarantee a space.

Qualifications

Each school will have 2 hours to attempt the qualification blocs (10-12 climbs). Points are awarded based on how many climbs are topped and how many attempts it takes. After the qualification rounds, schools will be notified if they have qualified for the finals.

Finals

The top 6 individual scores from your school (top 3 male and top 3 female scores) will be combined to give your overall team score.

10 Sheffield primary and secondary schools will attend the finals on 17 March.
10 Greater Sheffield primary and secondary schools will attend the finals on 18 March.
